Already voted Best Hot Hatchback for 2012 by carbuyer.co.uk, the Suzuki Swift Sport was voted top-rated car in an Auto Express poll last week that pitted it against 29 other vehicles, including several far more expensive models. The Suzuki was the only car to emerge with a score of five out of five. So what’s so special about the Swift Sport?
Around since 2000, and still a favourite on used car sites such as Car Sales, the Swift has been a workmanlike motor for Suzuki for several years. However, the new Sport model was launched in 2012 featuring a 1.6 liter engine, six-speed gearbox, keyless entry and start and a sleek sporty look. The car is not shy either, with a selection of funky metallic paints available, it wants to get noticed.
At first glance, it is not overly different from the standard Swift but look a little longer and the differences soon emerge. From the back, with its oversized dual exhaust pipes to the front with its all-new, deep, blacked-out grille, it begins to show a little personality. Front and rear spoilers alongside 17-inch alloys complete the look.
Inside, the Swift Sport boasts funky red stitching on both seats and steering wheel, with Bluetooth, audio and cruise controls integrated on the latter.
The continuing success of the car is great news for the Japanese manufacturer and Suzuki will no doubt look to build on the success of the new Swift Sport. In looking for clues to the car’s future, perhaps the Suzuki Swift Sport concept car produced recently is a tantalising glimpse into the future. Seen as one-man’s take on the Swift, designer Naoyuki Takeuchi has created a stunning one-off in the form of this sexed up racy little number.
Chief Engineer Takeuchi has taken the already lauded Swift Sport and toyed with the design of the car internally as well as externally. A clear theme of light and dark is evident in both the bodywork and luxury interior created by Takeuchi with the two-tone bodywork particularly striking. It’s a car that looks like it means business.
It remains to be seen if this will be brought into production but the present and the future of the Swift Sport are looking particularly rosy at the moment.
